Hanwha Aerospace has developed the Redback, an armored vehicle of the next generation.

Australian analysts have said that Hanwha Aerospace’s Redback is a strong candidate to win an Australian armored vehicle project that costs about 23 trillion won (US$17.73 billion).

Australian military authorities evaluated that the Australian-type armored vehicle Redback of Hanwha Aerospace was ahead of Germany-based Rheinmetall Defense’s Lynx in the third phase of the Land 400 Project in Australia, foreign media outlets said on March 5. LAND 400 is the largest and most costly acquisition project in Australian Army history. “We recently received feedback from the Australian Army that the Redback was superior to the German Lynx,” a Hanwha Aerospace official said.

Australia has decided to invest 270 billion Australian dollars in defense over 10 years and is moving forward with the Australian Army’s Armored Vehicle Land 400 Project.

In 2022, the winner of this armored vehicle project was initially expected to emerge. However, the project was delayed. It has been moving forward, but it is now more recent. The Australian government expects to announce the winner earlier than anticipated by submitting a defense strategy review report from Australia to the Australian government on February 14.
