Icon Film Distribution has acquired the rights to Icon Films The Promised LandThe Danish period drama featuring Mads Mikkelsen For the U.K.
The Nordic Western sees Mikkelsen reteam with Nikolaj Arcel, the director of 2012’s A Royal AffairThe film is a period piece with a steamy plot that earned an Oscar nod for best picture. international The film launched the career of co star Alicia Vikander.
Mikkelsen plays Captain Kahlen, a soldier from the 18th century who, despite all odds, tried to settle and cultivate a barren heath in Jutland. TrustNordisk who handle international sales of the film has closed a U.S. contract for The Promised Land Magnolia Pictures has a head start on Venice. The title is available in many territories including Mongrel Media Canada, Plaion Germany, The Jokers Film France, Divisia Red Spain, Best Film Poland and Divisia Red Spain.
The U.K. contract was negotiated with Josh Thomashow, Icon Film Distribution’s Head of Acquisitions and TrustNordisk director Susan Wendt.
